RISE - DfE Updates

There are a HUGE amount of updates coming out of the DfE at the moment. Here we hope we can summarise them for your, provide key links and help you keep up to date with what is going on in the world of Early Years.

July 2026: Summary of changes: New versions of the frameworks which take effect from 1 September 2026. The main changes to both versions (childminders and school based settings) are updates on safer sleep, a requirement for providers to have regard to screen use, prohibiting childcare where banned dog breeds are present and other safeguarding clarifications. The group and school-based providers framework also requires providers of childcare on domestic premises to notify Ofsted or their childminder agency of changes to persons aged 16 or over living or working on the premises.

July 2026: It has been announced 18 new Early Years Stronger Practice Hubs will launch across England, helping to strengthen support for even more early years providers. The Thames Valley and Sounth Central Early YEars Stronger Practce Hub willbecome the Thames Valley and Solent Early Years Stronger Practice Hub. Their new region will include Bracknell, Portsmouth, Reading, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Southampton, South Buckinghamshire, Slough, West Berkshire and Wokingham. If you are based in Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Milton Keynes or North Buckinghamshire, your new Early Years Stronger Practice Hub will be in touch from September to introduce themselves and share details of the support available.

June 2026: This national professional development (NPD) course is for experienced reception teachers. It uses the latest early years research and evidence to support teaching in today’s classrooms. You will develop your practice and strengthen your understanding of key areas of child development. Register you interest now, applications open in July and the course starts in October 2026.
