Curriculum evening presentation

What an amazing day we had at the funfair today!

Instructional Writing

This week, we have focused instructional writing. At the start of the week, we explored an obstacle course outside to help us understand what information people would need to know if they were to complete these instruction. We then wrote a set of rules about how to safely complete the obstacle course.

Sports Week

We had an sport-tastic week this week in the build up to Sports Day on Friday. In our teams, we came up with our names, created a chant, decorated a banner and flags and had the opportunity to run through each event. We had a brilliant day on Friday, the weather didn’t dampen our spirits!

World War II Day

We had a very different day today! Our school was transformed into a World. War II school! We started off the day with our parents coming in to make gas masks with us. Then, we were evacuated to a different classroom and had the opportunity to experience life in a WW2 classroom. We all decided we much prefer our usual classroom!

Exploring the Woodlands

In our forest school session this week, we used the nature around us to make some interesting pictures.

Red Nose Day

Today was Red Nose Day so we came into school wearing something red. We designed our own superhero red nose and then used this to compose a story with this character.

Bird Feeders

In Forest School this week, we attempted the tricky tasks of making bird feeders. We had to thread popcorn onto the string and we were all very resilient like Tigger!

Storytellers

As part of book week, we wrote our own stories. We used everything we explored over the week to help us understand how to write a great book.

Author Visit

We were extremely lucky this week to have a visit from the wonderful author, Chitra Soundar. She shared a book with us and we had the opportunity to ask her some questions. We were very inspired by the things shared with us!

World War II Visitor

We started off our week with a special visitor who told us some interesting facts about World War II. Some of us even got to try some different uniforms on!

Mystery Paper Aeroplane

We had a mysterious paper aeroplane fly into class this week and we were not sure who sent it to us. We decided to send a plane back to see if we could find out more so we learnt instructions for how to do this. We then wrote our own instructions and tried to use adverbs in our writing.

It’s Christmas!
Today was our last day at school before the Christmas holidays. We were very lucky to have some special visitors at school today. We followed a tinsel trail around school and this lead us to some of Santa’s reindeers! There were some elves who explained how to look after reindeers and answered some of our questions. We then carried on the trail and ended up with Santa himself!!

Coronation Day

It was coronation day today so we can go school in our ‘best clothes’. We explored Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation and thought about how King Charles’ might be different. We then held our very own coronation at school!

Children in Need

Today it was Children in Need day so we were learning about the children this important charity helps. We learnt about how important it is for children to feel special so we thought about what makes us special.

A Strange Mystery!

This week in Giraffe class, we found something strange on our playground; someone had drawn a carpet but we had no idea who it was. We used our predictions skills to explain who we think this was and explained why we think this. It turns out that it was a little girl has a magical crayon and she can turn anything she draws into real life. We explored this in a book called 'Journey' and we all enjoyed the fact this book has no words. In one of our lessons this week, we used our inferences skills to explore some of the pages in the book. We thought about what we could see, how the girl might be feeling, what could happen next and what sort of questions this particular page raises.

What an exciting week we have had this week for Artsweek. Our focus was Diwali so we explored this through art and music. Our adults were invited in to paint some Diva lamps we had made using clay.

Science Investigation

This week, we completed our investigation that we made predictions for last week. We tested to see which materials would make a better raincoat for RINT by dropping some water on each materials and then observing what happens.

History Lesson

This week in History we were looking at Queen Elizabeth II and learning important facts about her. We used the information we discovered to write a fact file about her. We were all in awe of what an amazing woman she was!

Giraffe class were excited to be back at Basing Woods for Forest School. We used nature around us to make some new pictures.

What an amazing day we had on our trip to Portchester Castle!

This week in Literacy we are thinking about language. We looked at the same sentence and thought about different language we could use in each sentence.

This week, we experienced something strange in Giraffe class. After the golden mile, we found a strange mess in our classroom. We were all very confused and annoyed that someone made such a mess and left it. We made predictions about who we thought made the mess but it was not who we thought it was. It turns out it was Billy and Fatcat from the book ‘Billy and the Dragon’. In another lesson, we hot seated Billy and Fatcat so we could infer their emotions.

We had an excellent first week in Year 2, focusing on our Belonging Week. We found out more about democracy and it’s importance. This lead to us holding our own election to vote for our school council members. Over the week, thought about how exiting it is to be a part of the Marnel school community.
