  • R.E. Syllabus at Marnel Infant School

Wed 04 Jan 2017 Miss Cox

Miss Van Nyvel our R.E. Leader has updated information about how the new Hampshire Living Difference is implemented at Marnel Infant School.

Religious Education at Marnel Infant School

At Marnel Infant School we encourage the children to learn about different religions and what it means to be religious. They are encouraged to investigate, reflect on and evaluate concepts found within different religions and religious beliefs. We focus on Christianity and Hinduism in line with the Hampshire Syllabus for Religious Education.

We believe that Religious Education helps to foster a respect and sensitivity for others and their beliefs. It offers opportunities for personal reflection and also spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC). It enables them to challenge prejudice and actively engage with issues that affect them and those around them. Learning in Religious Education requires that children engage with a simple concept or key idea such as friendship, change, or celebration, firstly within their own experience and then within the experiences of religious people. The children learn about Religious Education in many creative ways including drama, art and music.

If you have any further questions about Religious Education We would be more than happy to discuss this with you; please contact the school office.

At Marnel Infant School RE is about Religious Education, not religious instruction. However, parents do have the right to withdraw their children from Religious Education or parts of it. Should this be the case we strongly advise parents speak to the class teacher in the first instance to ensure they are fully aware of what is being taught so they can make informed decision.

  • Science Day 2017!

Wed 04 Jan 2017 Miss Cox
Well we have certainly started the New Year with a bang! We are fortunate enough to have Dr. John Brazier from the University of Reading and a number of his students to help us have a fantastic Science Day. We started the day with the whole school watching Dr. Brazier create a rainbow in a test tube and answer the question; Why is the sky blue? The children have then gone off to carry out a range of experiments which include flames, custard powder, and crystals. Check back at the end of the day to see the photographs of our day.
