Elephant Class 2022-2023

Welcome to the Elephant Class Page.

 

On this page you will be able to find out what we have been learning in school. This term our driver for learning is “Coast”.

 

Our P.E. day is Friday and Forest School is on a Thursday afternoon. Please remember to bring in named clothing and footwear for these activities.

Curriculum evening presentation

In forest school this week we took part in many different nature related challenges. We used sticks to write our names, popped bubbles before they hit the ground and made shapes using different resources.

God save the King. Today we celebrated King Charles lll by having out very own coronation day. We made crowns, had a picnic with our families and learnt all about our no monarchy.

We have been learning how to use a dictionary and a thesaurus to support out writing.

This week we have been learning all about how to write instructions on how to complete an obstacle course. Before writing out instructions we experienced what it would be like to complete one without any information.

It’s sports week! This week we have thought a lot about how to be a team player whilst learning new skills as an athlete. 

Spring is here! To celebrate the beginning of spring we enjoyed many different Easter celebrations such as, a bonnet competition, designing an Easter egg, following clues on a scavenger hunt and making an Easter egg basket

This week we have been thinking about what the word “believe” means and what it means for us and Christians. Here are some pictures of us sorting statements depending on if we have a strong belief or no belief.

To finish off our driver of “WW2” we have travelled back in time to Basingstoke during the war. We needed to be evacuated to ensure we were safe.

This week we have been designers and thought about how we can think, design and create a sock puppet to support use as story tellers. Here are some of our creations.

This week we have been story tellers - all week we have celebrated reading, writing and being authors.

Today we have celebrated numbers and taken part in NSPPC's number day. One of the fantastic challenges we were set was to be creative and learn how to measure parts of our bodies.

In our literacy lessons we have been writing and following instructions on how to make a paper aeroplane so that we can send a message back to a lonely girl called Emily. Today we were finally able to do this!

We have had many exciting and interesting experiences recently during our forest school sessions. Today we were able to be risk taking Piglets and climb trees whilst also being reflective like Owl and think about where animals live.

This half term we are learning all about World War Two. We were able to begin our learning with a visit from Tempest Fugit who was able to begin explaining amazing and interesting facts

What an amazing day! We were luck enough to have the production of Beauty and The Beast.

Today we celebrated Christmas together by following tinsel to meet reindeer and Father Christmas!

Today we expanded our knowledge on what a coronation is and what happens during the ceremony. We took part in coronation quiz, made bunting and expereinced our very own crowing of King Charles (Mrs Williams!)

This week we celebrated Children in Need. During the day we learnt about who our fundraising helped and the ways we can support others.

Arts Week! This week we have learnt all about Diwali and how this is a celebration of light. Throughout this week we were artists, musicians and learnt about a Religion.

Today we have been learning how to safely and creatively use the gymnastic equipment. We have practiced making our five basic shapes on the equipment and how sequence our to movements.

We have been computer scientists and begun to think about how to make an interactive e-book. We have been practicing how to take videos of our friends saying an interesting fact about the Queen.

This week we have started to gather ideas to write a non-fiction pieces of writing about Portchester Castle.

We visited Portchester Castle today as part of out Monarchy Driver. We were very brave Piglets and took risks by climbing steep spiral stairs, as well as being a responsible Kanga and learning about the importance of protecting castles.

In literacy we have been reading the book 'Billy and The Dragon'. To make sure we understood the story we sequenced pictures and retold it to our friends.

As a class we enjoyed our first trip to Basing Woods. At the woods we observed what we could see, hear and smell.

We have all has a fantastic first week back at Marnel! This week we have thought about our British values and due to this have created a class charter to express our views on what our class rules should be.
