Squirrel Class 2021-2022

Welcome to Squirrel Class.

 This term we are learning about the “The Titanic”. We will have the library on a Monday, P.E. on a Monday afternoon and Forest School on a Thursday afternoon. Please bring your named PE kit to school every Monday, it will stay in school for the week and returned to you on Friday.

Today was Titanic Day we thought about how the passengers would have felt throughout the maiden voyage, crash and in the life boats.

We had a great trip to the Seacity Museum.

Today we were very lucky to have a visit from the RNLI to tell us how to stay safe in the water.

We enjoyed Forest School today we made delicious recipes in the mud kitchen.

We had a great trip to Basing Woods. We built dens, peeled bark off a log and pretended to be wild animals like monkeys.

We had a fantastic forest school making habitats for puppets and even tree hanging.

Today we were lucky to have the PCSO come into visit and we learnt all about their job.

Today Emmanuel did a presentation to tell us all about Romania.

This week was science and outdoor learning week. We have had a fantastic week completing lots of science investigations and experiments, learning about the artist Brian Wildsmith and completing some great activities in Forest School every afternoon.

Today was Jubilee day! We were very lucky and our parents came in to do some art and craft activities. It was a lovely day.

We had a great forest school today.

Today we had a fantastic pyjamarama day! When we came to school we found posters saying the evil pea had captured the fish fingers and they were now missing. And that supertatoes friends had also been captured and needed our help. We worked as detectives to work out all the clues and save the corn from the freezer! We even had a go at making our own supertato.

We had a fun forest school where we created the butterfly life cycle and went tree climbing.

In Literacy today we got message from Mr Wood saying he needed our help! We tiptoed down towards the woodland following a trail of fish and found a baby seal. We then went back to class and acted out our morning. We even did some freeze frames and talked about how we were feeling.

We had a fantastic forest school. We followed a trail and completed the challenges as we went.

Today was sports day we had so much fun! We were the brilliant blue team and the sunshine yellows we all ran as fast as we could and the sunshine yellows were the fastest tea,pm in Year One!

Today was Easter Day! We decorated our own eggs and had a competition to see who’s was the best! We went on an egg hunt and even got our own chocolate eggs.

Today we learnt all about Christopher Columbus and went on our own journey around school to find out facts about him.

Today was St Lucia day! We did lots of fun activities and even all got a chance to play the steel pans.

Today we went on our very first school trip to the Living Rainforest, it was a fantastic day where we got to see lots of fantastic animals.

Today was Red Nose Day! We really enjoyed our day and had lots of fun.

This week Miss Wheeler’s friend Rapunsel went missing so we have been learning all about her story. Today we pretended to be the characters in the story and thought about how they would be feeling.

On world book day Winnie the Witch even shared one of her stories with us.

When we came to school a dragon had made a mess of our classroom. We made news reports to see if our friends could help us find the baby dragon.

This week we have worked hard and have learnt facts all about St Lucia. We then thought carefully about how to write these in a leaflet using subheadings. We have also had lots of fun this week measuring in maths. On Friday we then even got a chance to share lots of our learning in school with our grown ups at home!

We had a fantastic trip to the woods this week!

Today was number day! We raised money for the NSPCC and had a fun day doing lots of number themed activities.

We received a missing poster from the zoo saying their chameleon was missing! So we sent letters to let them know we found him and Miss Spalding got him ready to be sent back home.

We found a note telling us about an odd creature down in the woodland and went to explore and found a chameleon! We then decided to find out as many facts as possible about the chameleon.

We had a special treat today a pantomime came to school and we got to watch Snow White! We had so much fun.

We had a fantastic Christmas Day!

Today was Great Fire of London day! We made our very own houses for Pudding lane and even created our own fire picture. We cannot wait till next week when we get to see the fire spread along our creations!

Today was Children in Need day! We got to wear our pjs and do lots of fun Pudsey themed activities.

This week was Arts Week we have had a great week creating lots of different things .

We had a fantastic forest school in the sunshine.

The fire service came to visit and taught us all about how to stay safe if there was a fire.

We really enjoyed our first lesson using the gymnastic equipment.

When we came back from break time we found that a wild thing had destroyed our classroom!

This week we went on our first ever trip to Basing Woods! We chose our class tree and called him Stanley, although Mr Tree was a very close second vote. We then had a go at den building

Today we had a go at creating our own dragons breath and balancing on an obstacle course.

We had a fantastic first forest school in Year 1!

We had Samuel Pepys come and visit. He told us all about the Great Fire of London and where he hid his wine and cheese during the fire.

We have had a great first week in Squirrels. We have enjoyed the special week of belonging week as we learnt all about our new class. Have a look at the pictures below to see what we have done this week.
