Squirrel Class 2023-2024

Welcome to the Squirrel Class page.

Here you will find out about what we have been learning each week.

Squirrels have P.E. on a Wednesday, Library on a Thursday and Forest School on a Friday.

We hope you enjoy looking at our page as much as we have enjoyed the activities we have been doing.

Year 1 Curriculum Meeting Autumn 2023

This term we are learning about the Titanic. Today we began thinking about the affect the building of the Titanic had on the environment of Belfast's coast.

This week we have been learning about the story 'The Storm Whale'. We have really enjoyed learning about the characters, thinking about adjectives to describe and sequencing events.

This term we are learning about the Titanic. We have had a great time exploring our brand new Titanic themed role play.

St Lucia Day - what an amazing day we have had! We made rainmakers, learnt about how bananas travel to different countries and played the steal pans.

Today has been Comic Relief's Red Nose day! We have worn red and donated money to charity.

This week we had our school trip to the living rainforest. During our time there we learnt more about the features of the rainforest and had the time to watch and explore the many different animals that live there.

Today has been our World book day! We have celebrated reading, used our creativity and wrote out own narratives.

Over the last week we have enjoyed learning about Andy Seed the non-fiction author of 'An interview with...' We met him and learnt all about how he uses a translator to translate the animal sounds for his interviews.

This week we have taken part in NSPCC's Number day!

During PE we have been learning how to dribble the ball in-between cones.

We have been thinking all about St Lucia and have mind mapped all the facts we know.

Today we enjoyed a Christmas day filled with crafts, songs, learning about reindeer and the opportunity to go to meet Father Christmas!

Today we finished out topic of The Great Fire of London by learning about what happened after the fire. To do this we needed to see the fire in action so we made our own houses and safely watched them burn.

Today we have raised money and celebrated Children In Need. We wore out Pjs and learnt about what we raised money for.

This week be were geographers and drew simple maps of London. Once our map for finished we used a red pencil to track the fire.

During our first week back after half term we learnt all about art music and dance. We created firework pictures, model rockets, sang in a round and dances like a fire cracker.

Today we had our class trip to Basing Woods where we were able to splash in muddy puddles and build dens.

Today we discovered a huge mess in our classroom after being outside on the golden mile. We were all very shocked when we investigated further and saw two huge footprints amongst the mess. I wonder what it was?

In our P.E sessions we have been exploring the 5 basic shapes we can use in gymnastics. We have thought about how we can transition from one sane to another.

This week we have been learning to follow and write instructions on how to put out a fire. We watch Mr Williams and Miss Egan carefully show us what to do.

We have been enjoying in forest school learning new skills and exploring Basing Woods.

This week we began learning about our topic driver - The Great Fire of London. We had an educational visit from Tempest Fugit and learnt about how the fire started and spread.

Welcome back! This first week of year one has been filled with getting to know new friends, exploring our new classroom and outdoor areas whilst engaging in lots of different fun and interactive activities.
