Squirrel Class 2022-2023

Welcome to the Squirrel Class Page.

 

On this page you will be able to find out what we have been learning in school. This term our driver for learning is “Coasts”.

Our P.E. day is Tuesday and Forest School is on a Wednesday afternoon. Please remember to bring in named clothing and footwear for these activities.

Year One Curriculum Evening Presentation

Coasts day was lots of fun, we loved watching Punch and Judy.

We enjoyed our Forest School session today.

This week we watched our caterpillars emerge from their chrysalis and turn into beautiful butterflies.

This week has been outdoor learning week. We have had fantastic art sessions, science lessons and forest school. We even Basing Woods for a whole day!

We had a great forest school in the mud kitchen.

We enjoyed our Forest School.

Today we got a message from Mr Wood explaining that he had heard some weird sounds down in foxes. We then found a trail of fish and followed them down to the woodland where we found a baby seal. When we got back to class we acted out how we felt.

We loved making a collaborative picture for the coronation of King Charles III.

We had a great forest school creating a butterfly lifecycle, cloud watching and tree hanging.

We enjoyed our PE lesson today. We learnt how to do an under arm throw and practised this in a relay.

We loved collecting seed bombs in Forest School.

Look at our amazing Easter bonnets.

Today we made pictures out of natural resources and dens.

We had another great trip to Basing Woods. We looked for signs of Spring and spotted frogs spawn in the pond.

We had so much fun in the snow at school today.

We spent our Forest School session today exploring the signs of Spring and seeing what we could spot around school,

This week was book week! Our week started off with a fantastic workshop from author Chitra Soundar.

Today we had lots of fun in the mud kitchen making lots of delicious recipes.

We loved our trip to the woods. We looked carefully for different leaves and thought about what tree they might have come from.

We learnt all about air raid sirens and we even had a go at making our own and responding to the siren.

We had a great Forest School session. We even had a go at starting our own fire.

Today we had the fire service come in to visit. They taught us how to stay safe and what to do in an emergency.

We had a race to see who could dress up as a fire fighter the quickest!

Today we had a very special visitor come in and tell us all about WW2. We had such a fun time, we even got to wear some WW2 costumes.

We had a great last day celebrating Christmas as a class. We followed a trail of tinsel and met reindeer and saw Father Christmas at the end.

We have loved decorating our classroom for Christmas.

We had a great trip to the woods.

We enjoyed drawing the signs of Autumn on the playground.

On Monday we found a large present for Year 1. It was a giant crown and the smartest giant in town needed our help to write instructions to make a crown for King Charles. We all made our own crowns and wrote instructions of how to make one.

In forest school today we made dens for wooden people and used mirrors to look at the sky.

We loved den building, knot tying and playing games during Forest School today.

This week was Arts Week and we have been learning all about Diwali! In art we have been designing our own mehndi, rangoli and diva lamps. In music we have been learning all about Indian drumming and composing our own music. In PE we were lucky and had some visitors in to teach us Indian dancing!

We loved our parents coming in to paint our diva lamps.

We loved our dance workshop. We retold the story of Rama and Sita through dance.

We clapped rhythms.

We enjoyed creating our own Rangoli patterns.

We enjoyed forest school today making lots of yummy meals in the mud kitchen.

We had a great PE lesson. We climbed on the wall bars and we made different shapes.

We came in after break time on Monday and found that the classroom was a mess. We think it was a wild thing! So we spent the week learning more about the story where the wild things are and even acted out the story with our friends.

We had a fantastic trip to the woods. We looked around the wood# for signs out autumn.

We had a great PE lesson where we took part in gymnastics and practising the different shapes we can make.

This week we were shocked to see that someone had eaten Miss Wheeler’s and Mrs Burch’s cake. Miss Wheeler remembered a story all about a very hungry dragon who we think may have eaten the cake.

We had a great Forest School afternoon.

We had an amazing trip to Porchester Castle!

Today we had a great first forest school session.

This week we have used our discovery time to learn even more about Castles. We have shared stories about castles and even had a go at building our own.

We have had a fantastic first week in Squirrel class. This week has been belonging week and we have worked as a class to decide our class rules and learn all about what being in Squirrel Class is like.
